$5,640 donation to pay for bass-tagging study on Potomac River

Anglers and fishing fans have teamed up with FLW Outdoors and its sponsors to help preserve and enhance the largemouth bass population on the Potomac River near La Plata, Md. Over $5,600 was donated for a bass-tagging project that will help to maximize stocking efficiency.

Beginning June 1, 2005, the slot limit for black bass (spotted and largemouth bass) on Lewis Smith Reservoir will be modified from the current limit of 13 to 16-inches to 13 to 15-inches. The Budweiser ShareLunker 2004-2005 season closed April 30 with 24 fish entered, the highest total since 1996.
A large measure of credit for that performance goes to Lake Alan Henry. The 2,880-acre lake southeast of Lubbock produced nine ShareLunkers, largemouth bass weighing 13 pounds or more. Lake Fork contributed seven, Sam Rayburn Reservoir two, and Lakes Falcon, Ray Roberts, Austin and Choke Canyon one each. Two lunkers came from private waters.
