Retail Powerboat Sales Flat in First Half of Year
(Nov. 29, 2005 - CHICAGO, IL)
U.S. retail sales of new inboard and jet drive boats saw increases of 2.7 percent and 4.6 percent respectively, while most powerboat segments saw decreases during the second quarter 2005 compared to the same period last year, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA). Registration data on Delaware, Illinois and Iowa was incomplete for the quarter and therefore is not included in this summary.

The 30-page report summarizes the pre-owned boat market for 2004 by propulsion, hull material, length and region of the country, and is the first NMMA study analyzing the pre-owned market since 1997.

The largest gathering of professionals, scientists, biologists and researchers throughout the United States and Canada converged October 28-30th in Indianapolis, Indiana for the second Symposium on Esocids. Not since April 1984 in La Crosse, Wisconsin (when Muskies, Inc. sponsored the first technical conference in cooperation with the Esocid Technical Committee of the American Fisheries Society) has there been such a large gathering.

NOAA has completed additional analyses of fish, water, and sediment samples collected from coastal and offshore marine waters of the Gulf of Mexico two weeks after hurricane Katrina, September 12-16. The latest tests were conducted to determine the level of fish, water, and sediment exposure to bacteria and to determine the level of exposure to pesticides and other contaminants, such as PCBs and DDTs. Last week, NOAA tests of these same fish found no oil contamination.

Wes Dawson, reports that everyone and everything survived the storm in reasonably good shape. "We were able to store many of the boats at our Beaumont location in a large empty building that is next door", Wes said. "All of our customers boats that we had in the shop came through without any damage.", he further commented.
