Redbone Tournament Trilogy Wraps Up Nov. 5-7

The final leg of a Keys trilogy of fundraising tournaments, the Redbone, is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Nov. 5-7. Teaming anglers with celebrities to catch redfish and bonefish, the tournament is headquartered at the Islander Resort, mile marker (MM) 82.1 oceanside.

Events are to begin Thursday, Nov. 4, with a welcome reception and early registration for anglers, guides and celebrities — including E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons, Tim Wakefield of the Boston Red Sox and Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, a regular Redbone celebrity.

Thursday at the Islander Resort’s Conference Center also features the registration and kickoff for the associated Superfly tournament within a tournament, sponsored by Fort Lauderdale’s The Fly Shop.

Superfly action is to begin at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, with a continental breakfast served at the Lorelei dock, MM 82 bayside. Boats can depart Lorelei at 7 a.m., and fishing continues until lines-out at 3 p.m.

The official Redbone social is to start with a 6-9 p.m. kick-off party and auction at the Redbone tent on the Islander Resort’s beach. The auction closes at 8 p.m. Clarence Clemons is scheduled to bring his smoking saxophone and rock the tent with the Marlin Too Revue Band during the kickoff.

Anglers can begin their pursuit of redfish and bonefish Saturday after a 7 a.m. blessing of the fleet. Lines-out is set for 3 p.m. A dockside celebrity party is to run 3-5 p.m. All dockside events are presented by the Lorelei, the event’s dockside host.

Sunday’s fishing competition begins with a continental breakfast at 6 a.m. and boat departure at 6:30 a.m. Lines-out is at 3 p.m. and the dockside celebrity party is set for 3-5 p.m.

Cocktails and an awards banquet are to be held starting at 7 p.m. at the Islander Resort beach under the Redbone tent.

This tournament is a qualifier for the 2011 Florida Keys Outfitters International Game Fish Association Inshore World Championship. The Trilogy series benefits cystic fibrosis research.

Registration for an angler fishing with a celebrity is $3,000, and a two-person angler team is $3,500. For more information, contact Susan Ellis at 305-664-2002, e-mail [email protected].
