Veteran Angler Nixon Reviews FLW Tour’s Lake Champlain Stop On FLW Outdoors, TV

Watch the Outdoor Life Network Aug. 8 as veteran bass pro Larry Nixon reviews the Wal-Mart FLW Tour event on New York’s Lake Champlain for the “FLW Outdoors” television show. The June 23-26 tournament – the $1.25 million Forrest Wood Open presented by Kellogg’s – was the final qualifying event for the prestigious 2004 Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship. Nixon will talk with Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year Shinichi Fukae of Osaka, Japan, as well as the top three finishers of the Forrest Wood Open: Team BFGoodrich Tires pro Scott Martin of Clewiston, Fla., who won the event; Aaron Martens of Castaic, Calif., who landed in second; and Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala., who rounded out the top three on Lake Champlain.

Fukae, who completed his rookie season on the FLW Tour at Lake Champlain, won the coveted Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year award after an unprecedented season that included three top-10 finishes. Along with the title, Fukae won $25,000 in cash and will appear on the cover of a Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box as the 2004 Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year. Nixon will talk to Fukae about his unbelievable season and his strategy for the championship.

Martin took home more than $200,000 in cash awards from Lake Champlain and has now amassed more than a half-million dollars in winnings on the FLW Tour. The Forrest Wood Open was Martin’s second FLW Tour win; his first was in 2000 on the Pascagoula River. As runner-up, Martens cashed a check for $100,000 at the Forrest Wood Open, an event he won last year on Wheeler Lake. First-year FLW Tour pro Newton walked away with $50,000, his largest check to date. Nixon will talk with all three pros to find out how they caught fish.

The show will also feature a bass profile on Martens, who is considered one of the best finesse anglers on the tour. The show will go fishing with Martens on Lake Castaic in California, and he will talk about his success in fishing and what it’s like to travel around the country with his family.

The Outdoor Life Network broadcasts “FLW Outdoors” Sundays from 1-2 p.m. Eastern and again Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. Check local listings for show times and channels in your area. During each tournament show, FLW Outdoors television hosts Carlton Wing and Taylor Carr will go on location to provide on-the-water coverage. While tournament weigh-ins will broadcast live at Wal-Mart stores throughout the country, “FLW Outdoors” will be tape-delayed by three weeks to bring audiences nationwide the best tournament footage possible throughout the season.By: Bill Petrowiak, FLW Outdoors
