TRADING SPACES: FAMILY, a spin-off of the popular cable series TRADING SPACES, is airing it’s first nautical episode on Friday, March 12, 2004 at 7:00PM ET/PT and Sunday, March 14, 2004 at 10AM ET/PT. The episode was taped at the Harborage Marina in St. Petersburg, Florida.
TRADING SPACES contacted the National Marine Manufacturers Association to locate families for this nautical expedition. The Tampa Boat Show, which will be held this year September 16-19, distributed flyers to attendees and exhibitors to find participants. Flyers were also distributed to local marinas. The boat owners who were selected are Captain Calvin Tate & Pat Benavides, owners of a
33- year- old 70 ft. custom houseboat and Angela & Nick Metro, owners of a 19-year-old 56 Matthews Motoryacht.
Captain Calvin Tate & Pat Benavides had their salon made-over with the help of designer Hildi Santo-Tomas. The houseboat is Tate & Benavides’ first boat. They purchased it two years ago and have lived aboard ever since.
The Metros live aboard with their 18-month and 2-year-old children. The Metro’s salon transformation was guided by designer Edward Walker. Both families reside dockside at the St. Pete Municipal Marina.
TRADING SPACES has a history of hiring handsome carpenters and Carter Oosterhouse is no exception. Fame has come quickly for this audience favorite who was recently featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Oosterhouse grew up boating in Michigan and as a life-long boater he was anxious to work on this seaworthy segment. Oosterhouse salvaged teak and mahogany from an old boat for the renovation.
TRADING SPACES: FAMILY provides two neighboring families with $1,000 each, a professional designer, a carpenter, and 48 hours to redo a room of their choice. But there’s a catch, they have to switch houses or boats, and they have no say in how their own room will look. After two days of grueling work, the spaces are totally transformed. Then each team returns to their own home to see what’s
become of their room.
The new Sunday-night TRADING SPACES: FAMILY is produced by Banyan Productions, which oversees production of all TRADING SPACES shows. For Banyan, Susan Cohen-Dickler, Jan Dickler and Ray Murray are executive producers and Shawn Visco is series executive producer. For TLC, Kathy Davidov is executive producer.
