The Bite Goes On

A cold front accompanied by thunderstorms and steady rain covered Cape May though only a light, occasional drizzle was felt in Ocean City, Maryland and much of the fleet reported light winds and light drizzle offshore as 77 boats headed to the canyons on Day Three of the 2010 Mid Atlantic $500,000. Several changes occurred to the leaderboard in the major categories.

In Ocean City, Maryland, Scott Steele’s Toplesss weighed an 80-pound white marlin and moved into third place in the category. Jonathan Duffie’s Billfisher is still the boat to beat with his 88-pounder and Chris Shultz’s Cracker is still holding on to second place with his 82-pounder.

Though several blue marlin have been released, the weight category for the class remains vacant as no blues over 400 pounds have been weighed.

In the tuna category at Ocean City, Don Pyle’s Finesse weighed an 84-pound yellowfin to take the lead in the tuna category. In Cape May, Keith Greenburg wheeled Dave Anderson’s Krazy Salts into second place with an 83-pound yellowfin while William Diller’s Canyon Lady is now in third place with a 78-pound yellowfin, also weighed today in Cape May.

Russell Baiocco’s American Lady continues to lead the dolphin category with his tournament record 56-pounder while Don Haines’ Shelly II leads the wahoo category with a 49-pounder.

Some of the boats with significant billfish releases on Day Three include the Par Five of Nick and Trish Rodriguez, Dan Burt’s Pumpin’ Hard, Don Pyle’s Finesse and Danny Jones’ Reel Toy with three white marlin releases each. Ron McQuaid’s Sea Cure released a blue marlin today.
