Lady Angler and C.A.S.T./North member Debbie Southard summed uplake conditions Sunday morning before the tournament began when she stated that “this lake looks like a dirt road.” Her observations proved exactly on the mark as our couples set out to fish some of the muddiest water most of us have ever seen.
Undoubtedly Ronnie & Margaret Sherbert (after fishing C.A.S.T. for 13 years without a first place finish) took the correct fork in that road. The Sherberts fished white Horizon Spinnerbaits (courtesy of our Sponsor) in shallow water around grass to weigh in a nice 10.25 LB stringer, anchored by two Blacks over 4 LBS each.
Bobby and Tammy Hodges fished the same type water with black craw worms. The Hodges landed a 7.30 Lb Black Beauty for Second Big Bass honors and secured second place with a 10.15 Lb stringer, a mere one tenth pound behind the Sherberts.
Most everyone that fishes tournaments has heard the saying “it just takes onebite to make your day”. Well, Ronnie & Susan Barker got that bite after fishing over seven hours without even the hint of a strike, then Ronnie got the one that would net them Big Bass of the Tournament. Within site of the boat ramp Ronnie threw his Carolina-rigged black Berkley power worm around a stump and hooked a 9.80 Lb HAWG less than an hour before the tournament ended.
