Penn Introduces New Slammer® Metal-Bodied Spinning Reels

For 2002, Penn has introduced two new metal-bodied, American-made spinning reels that will be an instant hit with both salt and freshwater anglers.

The size and quality construction of these two skirted-spool models – the Slammer® 460 and Slammer® 560 – make them ideal when plugging for snook, casting to boiling blues or working the flats for permit. Penn’s new Slammers® are also more than a match for tough freshwater fish like pike, muskie, or stripers.

Slammer® reels feature a durable die-cast aluminum housing, side plate and rotor that are anodized and powder-coat painted for serious corrosion resistance. The 460 and 560 also feature Penn’s exclusive Techno-Balanced™ rotor, dynamically balanced for smooth, wobble-free performance whether you’re cranking a lure or fighting a big fish. For long casts and friction-free retrieves, Penn uses a machined, gold anodized aluminum elongated spool and a large, offset line roller with its own ball bearing.

Penn’s engineering is just as impressive inside, with four stainless steel ball bearings, heavy duty precision gears and a fully supported, full-length stainless steel spool shaft. To control even the most spirited gamefish, Penn utilizes a one-way roller for infinite anti reverse and a large, single protected HT100™ drag washer under the spool.

The Slammer® 460 holds approximately 240 yards of 12-lb. test monofilament and weighs about 19 ounces. The 560 holds approximately 325 yards of 12-lb. line and weighs about 20 ounces. Each model features a fast yet powerful 4.6-1 retrieve ratio and a comfortable soft grip handle that’s reversible for left- or right-hand retrieve.

Penn’s new Slammer® spinning reels match well with a number of spinning models from Penn’s rod families, including Slammer®, Power Stick®, Power Graph® II and Sabre®.
