The 30th ANNUAL KCKL 95.9 FM BIG BASS TOURNAMENTThe 2013 Tournament presented some good and some very challenging fishing conditions. Mid 60s temps, light winds, and scattered thunderstorms on Saturday provided nice fishing conditions allowing 193 big bass to be weighed on Day 1. Then Saturday night the front blew in bringing 47 degree temperatures and NW winds up to 40 mph. Understandably, most of those who fished on Sunday were very limited in fishing locations and presentations which greatly reduced the number of bass weighed in. Day 1 leader Richard Kaye held on to win $5,200 with his 9.57 lber. With a strong Youth Division participation of 54 anglers, it is not surprising that 3rd Place overall and the Youth Division was won by 15 year old Garrett Lewis with a 7.81 lber. LADIES DIVISION
Overall, the Tournament awarded 115 cash prizes, 100+ Door Prizes worth over $9,000 plus all the Youth anglers received Door Prize packages of their own thanks to the hard work of TFF member "sight fisher" (Clifford Weidman of Lufkin)who volunteered to take on the Youth Door Prizes solicitation. For fun, we offered two of the Door Prize winners of Dobyns Rods a contest. Each got a Academy H2O reel still in the box, a large spool of line, a spinnerbait and the challenge of a race with the other angler to spool enough line on the rod and reel, then tie on the spinnerbait and cast 20 yards to the lake. After a couple of minutes, the angler on the right won and received a $50 Gift Card from Academy. The winner got the Dobyns Rod, the Academy reel and $50 for total winnings of $275. The second contestant went home with the same Dobyns rod and Academy reel worth $225. Not bad for a "loss". The KCKL 95.9 FM Bass Tournament Staff |
