A weekend of great weather provided the stage for a record breaking catch at the 29th ANNUAL KCKL 95.9 FM Big Bass Tournament at Cedar Creek Lake. Each year, the Tournament's $10 Youth Entry Fee encourages youngsters to spend the day with a parent or guardian enjoying a day on the water while having the chance to win prizes in their own Division and in the Overall Final Standings awards. Several years, Youth anglers have placed well in the Tournament, but for 2012, the winner was 15 year old Austin Megallon of Mabank with a 8.97 lb. bass. He bested the entire field to win the overall Tournament and also win the Youth Division for those under 16.

The Megallons have fished the KCKL Tournament for several years and won prizes before so they knew they had a Tournament contender once the fish was in the boat. Austin reported catching his fish about 10:30 using a Shakyhead worm rig on lightweight spinning gear. The battle lasted a long five minutes as they worked the big bass to the net. With great excitement they elected to come in to the scales taking the Hourly Prize then nervously waiting out the rest of the Tournament weigh ins to take the $5,000 First Prize. When asked what he was going to do with the prize money, Austin said he might use a little for tackle, but most of it was going to be invested for the future. Congratulations to Austin and Robert for a memorable day on the lake. And way to go Dad.

2nd Place was won by Billy Lawson of Balch Springs with a fine 8.14 lber. Billy reported catching numerous bass, weighed fish in several hours winning money in multiple of the Hourly competitions.

In addition to the cash prizes awarded each year, Door Prizes worth over $7,000 are awarded to participants rods and reels, coolers, lures, tackle packs, gift certificates and many more items. Just remember, you must be present at the final 3:00 Weigh In each day to win.

After the final weigh-in, there was a good time by anglers and spectators as the Door Prizes were given away, the Saturday afternoon BBQ was served, and the gathering provided the opportunity to see the many anglers who have fished this event for 29 years.

Each year (except the 1st year), contestants are given a KCKL Tournament hat. Pat has put together a display board with a sample from each year.

Also, she has created several photo boards showing previous events. At the 2013 event, take a look and see if you see someone you know.

Plans for the 30th Annual event have been finalized so mark your calendar for March 23 - 24, 2013 at Log Cabin Park and join us for the "funnest" Tournament you will fish this year.

Good fishing in 2013,
