Welcome to Toledo Bend Guide Service & Lake Cottage
Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
The lake is 170.6 ft msl, (high pool is 172ft). SRA has both generators running from 12pm to 7pm. Water temp is running in the mid to upper 80s. The water clarity is stained on the very north end and running clear as you go south. The hyacinth is still causing some problems along the shoreline and in the back of the coves and pockets.
Fall is just around the corner with shorter days and cooling temperatures, which will trigger an increase in feeding and schooling activity. However, we are still having to deal with a typical summer pattern where the best feeding activity is early in the morning and late in the evening.
Early morning and late evening we’re working shallow grass flats, flooded brush, lily pads and pepper grass close to deep water with top water plugs, stick baits, frogs, buzz baits, spinner baits, shallow diving and lipless crank baits and finesse plastics (Senkos, Flukes, and Trick worms). When the sun gets overhead or the bite slows down, back out to deeper water along creek channel drops, river ledges, timberlines, main lake ridges and humps, secondary and main lake points with mid to deep diving crank baits, slab spoons, tail spinners and Texas or Carolina rigged soft plastics. Watch for schooling bass and keep a lipless crank bait, shallow diving crank bait and top water plug handy.
The White bass have been schooling off the main lake points late in the evening. Traps and slab spoons working best. The main lake river channel sand-bars have been extremely slow.
The Crappie are holding in 15 to 25 ft. over brush tops. Better catches coming in at night. Live shiners or jigs tipped with a shiner working best.
Note: For anyone interested there will be a night bass tournament starting August 3 out of Huxley Bay Marina from 6pm to 10:30pm and will be held each Saturday until Oct 5, 07. It’s a three bass limit tournament. For more information contact Allen Murphy at 936.368.2254.
