Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
Fishing Report
The lake is 163.9 ft msl up almost three feet in the last week and still slowly rising, high pool is 172 ft msl. The water temperature has been running in the mid 70s but is slowly dropping with the recent cooling weather. The north end of the main lake is stained with the feeder creeks muddy.
We finally received a much-needed rain last week. The north end of the lake got 5 to 6 inches, mid lake 8 to 10 inches and the south end of the lake got 12 to 17 inches of rain.
We were able to finish pouring an additional 20 feet of concrete on the ramp at Huxley before the rains fell and the lake rose. We now have three good lanes to launch a boat.
We’ve been hammering the White Bass this week along the main lake sand bars on slab spoons and there has been a lot more schooling activity with the cool weather. Keep a shallow diving crank bait, trap or top water plug handy if they start schooling.
The Blacks were slow this week with the rising water but should pick up when the lake settles down and the water temperature drops some.
The Crappie have also been extremely slow for this time of year due to the warmer than normal water temperatures; plus the rising water will scatter them. It’s just a matter of the lake stabilizing and the water temp to drop and they should start bunching up along the river channel ledges.
