Toledo Bend Fishing Report
The lake is 165.68 msl, and high pool is 172 msl. Both generators are running from noon to 8pm. The north end of the lake is stained and clearing as you go south. The water temperature is running in the mid to upper 80s. The lake is steadily falling and care should be taken running areas you are not familiar.
One of the few summer tournaments was held last weekend (Bass N Bucks) with approximately 100 teams participating. Of that, approximately half the field caught a five fish limit with a 22 lb stringer taking first place, 18 lbs second and 17 lbs third. The winning stringer was reportedly caught on crank baits in 10 to 14ft of water while sitting in 20 plus feet of water off main lake points. Second place reported catching their fish by sitting in 20 ft of water and casting jigs to 14 ft depths; then switching to a drop-shot to get their limit. Third place reported catching their fish on ¾ oz jigs around matted grass close to creek channels. For complete results check out Patty Lenderman’s report in the Lakecaster or visit Bass N Bucks website.
The fishing pattern remains the same as last weeks report.
Early morning and late evening work a top water plug, buzz bait, frog, trap, finesse plastic or shallow diving crank bait around pepper- grass close to deep water. As the sun gets overhead and the bite slows down work soft plastics and deep diving crank baits on the creek and river ledges and main points falling into deep water.
The White bass have moved into their typical summer patterns with much more schooling activity showing up on the lake in boat lanes, timber- lines and flats. Slab spoons and tail spinners working best on main lake sand bars from 10 to 24ft. Chrome traps and top water plugs working best when the bass are schooling. Look for the birds feeding on shad to locate the schooling fish. It’s not hard to limit out in short order once you get into them.
Crappie being caught in 20 plus feet of water around planted brush. Better catches coming in at night.
