Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
Fishing Report
The lake is 165.82 msl, and continuing on a slow rise from the recent rains. High pool is 172 msl, with the lake being a little over six feet low. Caution should still be used if not completely sure about the area you are running. Water temp is running in the low 60s. The north end of the lake is muddy from the recent rains and clearing as you go south. You can check out the February issue of the Lake Caster for available ramps or go to Toledo-bend.net. More ramps should be opening up with the rising water.
What a difference in just a couple days with the water warming into the sixties and the rising water. Even with the muddy and heavy stained conditions we’re starting to catch some good bass. We’ve been covering a lot of water with a spinner- bait and picking up a lot males. The bigger females have been hanging further back but are also in shallow water. The high winds gave us some problems the last couple days navigating the lake but things are settling down. The fishing is getting ready to bust wide open and is getting better everyday barring a strong cold front or a lot of rain.
We’re starting to see some Crappie moving shallow with the increase in water temperature. Cover the shallows with a small spinner bait or Beetle spin to locate the crappie and then use a slip cork with shiner or jig once located. Some crappie are still hanging deep around brush tops in 20 to 25 foot of water waiting to move shallow.
The recent rains and increase in the water level has turned on the Whites in the river proper. Traps, Road Runners and slab spoons working best.
Tis the season.
