Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
Weekly fishing report

The lake is 163.23 msl, up a little from last weeks rain. High pool is 172 msl, with the lake being about nine feet low. Water temp is running in the 50s. The north end of the lake is stained from the recent rains and clearing as you go south. Extreme caution should be used running the lake even in marked boat lanes due to the low water conditions. For available ramps you can contact the Sabine River Authority or check out the Lake Caster February issue. We are still able to launch at Huxley Bay Marina and work continues on adding a couple more boat launching. Note: Most of the major tournaments have been cancelled on the lake because of the low lake conditions and concern for boaters’ safety in regards to running the lake.

What a season we’re having. Not only has the fishing been great but also the weather has been unbelievable for this time of year. The few cold fronts that have passed through might slow things down for a few days but the fishing picks back up in three to four days. Last weeks rain and cold front slowed the Crappie and bass down but it didn’t seem to bother the Whites.

Went to the river proper last week checking on the Whites and it was right after the heavy rains we had. The river had a lot of current and was real muddy which might have been the reason we didn’t do very well. So, right now it’s hard to give a decent report on the river proper activity for the Whites. However, we’re tearing them up on the main lake. The last time the lake was this low this time of year, the Whites spawned on the main lake sand bars and unless we get a huge influx of water and a lot of current in the river, I foresee them doing the same thing this year.

The last couple days we started off fishing for Crappie and the bite was slow and the Crappie were scattered so we went after some Whites and we’re able to catch a limit in no time. We’re not catching them in the same areas everyday and we have to move around but have been able to locate a good group each time. Slab spoons and tail spinners working best.

Not many bass fishermen on the lake right now but the ones who have been out have been bringing in some good fish. A couple more double- digit fish were brought into the scales this week. Finesse plastics (Senkos, Flukes, trick worms) jigs and Carolina rigged soft plastics have been producing best when worked along creek channel ledges and main lake ridge points dropping into deep water. If we keep having this warm weather, the bass will start moving shallow pretty soon.
