Welcome to Toledo Bend Guide Service & Lake Cottage

Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
Weekly fishing report
The lake is 162.7 msl, high pool is 172 msl, over nine feet low. Water temp is running in the upper 40s and low 50s. The north end of the lake is stained from high winds and clearing as you go south. Extreme caution should be used running the lake even in marked boat lanes due to the low water conditions. For available ramps you can contact the Sabine River Authority. We are still able to launch at Huxley Bay Marina and work continues on adding a couple more boat launching lanes.
“T is” the season and not just the holiday season; it’s CRAPPIE season! Boats are lined up all along the old river channel and loading up ice chests full of big “Ole” slab crappie. The Crappie are moving along the river shelf and ledges anywhere from 18 to 30 feet. Jigs have been producing better than shiners for us. Size or color, plastic or hair doesn’t seem to be a big factor. Catch a couple and stay there and the fish seem to be coming through in waves. By the end of the day you'll have a good mess of fish. The bite lately has been better in the morning and falling off around noon and picking back up late afternoon.
The Black Bass slowed up some from the cold front last week but should be picking up with the warming forecast. Everything last week came off of ˝ oz jigs fished along the river channel shelf and ledges in black/blue or a brown/orange. The bite was slow but the fish caught were good size up to 7 lbs.
The White bass are stacking up big time along the old river channel sand bars in 15 to 28 feet. Some of the females are already loaded with eggs. Slab spoons and tail spinners working best. Look for the bait- fish on the sandbars to locate the Whites. No problem getting a limit in short order when you get into them.
