Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
Fishing Report
The lake is 162.6 msl, high pool is 172 msl, over nine feet low. Water temp is running in the low to upper 50s. The north end of the lake is stained from high winds and clearing as you go south. Extreme caution should be used running the lake even in marked boat lanes due to the low water conditions. For available ramps you can contact the Sabine River Authority. We are still able to launch at Huxley Bay Marina and work began last weekend on adding another boat launching lane. Hopefully the concrete will be poured any day.
The fishing continues to be excellent across the board. The extreme cold front last week (record lows in some areas) slowed things down for a few days but the bite has picked up and is getting better every day.
Black bass have been coming off C.R. or Texas rigged soft plastics in watermelon flavors, black/blue jigs, tail-spinners and spoons. On the colder days the jig bite has been better. Mid to deep diving crank baits in shade and crawfish colors are also producing fish along with traps, and spinner baits. The river and creek channel ledges and drops have been the most productive areas but any area close to deep water that’s holding bait- fish can be productive.
Most of the fishermen on the lake right now are fishing for Crappie and loading up the boat with good size and good numbers. Work the river channel ledges and drops with shiners and jigs over natural or planted brush in 25 to 30 foot of water.
The Whites are holding on the river channel sandbars in 14 to 20ft of water. ½ to ¾ silver slab spoons and tail spinners working best. Look for the bait- fish on the sandbars to locate the Whites. No problem getting a limit in short order when you get into them.
