Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
Toledo Bend Fishing Report

The lake is 162.87 msl, high pool is 172 msl, over nine feet low. Water temp is running in the upper 50s early and warming to mid 60s later in the day. The north end of the lake is stained from high winds and clearing as you go south. Extreme caution should be used running the lake even in marked boat lanes due to the low water conditions. For available ramps you can contact the Sabine River Authority. We are still able to launch at Huxley Bay but it’s one ramp, one boat at a time. Plans are on the drawing board to expand two more lanes and hopefully will be in place in the next couple weeks.

Wow, Wow, Wow is all you can say about the fishing on Toledo Bend this fall and it just seems to get better everyday. Everything is biting. Little to no boat traffic, overall good weather and the fish are just about jumping in the boat. We’ve had some great days of fishing on the “Bend” over the past couple weeks. Other than having memories of the 70s and early 80s this is probably the best fall season I’ve seen in the last fifteen years.

Black bass have been coming off C.R. or Texas rigged soft plastics in watermelon flavors, black/blue jigs, tail-spinners and spoons. Mid to deep diving crank baits in shade and crawfish colors are also producing fish along with traps, spinner baits and top water plugs. The river and creek channel ledges and drops have been the most productive areas but any area close to deep water that’s holding bait fish can be productive.

This is your wake-up call for all the people who wanted me to let them know when the Crappie started biting. The Crappie have really turned on with the cool water temperatures. Good creels and good size. Work the river channel ledges and drops with shiners and jigs over natural or planted brush.

No need in waiting for the spring river run if you like to fish for Whites. The Whites are holding on the river channel sandbars in 14 to 20ft of water. ½ to ¾ silver slab spoons and tail spinners working best. Look for the bait fish on the sandbars to locate the Whites. No problem getting a limit in short order when you get into them.
