Toledo Bend Lake Report
The lake level is 168.1 msl, and falling. High pool is 172 msl. SRA reporting both generators running from 1pm to 8pm. Water temp is running in the 80s. The water clarity on the north end of the lake is stained to clear.
Black Bass: Congratulations to the winners of the McDonalds Big Bass Splash last weekend. Some nice bass came to the scales with the winner weighing in a 10.30 lber.
The plastic bite has slowed way down for me the last couple weeks. Better fish have been coming out of 18 plus foot of water on Fire Tiger and Tenn. Shad DD 22 crankbaits around wooded sloughs and deep creek channels. The drops off main lake ridges and humps are also holding some fish. We’re having to cover a lot of water.
Early morning and late evening work shallow areas close to deep water around lily-pads, pepper grass and submerged hydrilla with top water plugs, buzz baits, frogs, spinner baits and finesse plastics. Main lake and secondary points falling into deep water, especially when the wind is blowing, are also holding some decent fish. Mid to deep diving crank baits and Carolina or Texas rigged soft plastics working best. On the north end of the lake a lot of the bigger fish have moved to the ledges and drops along the old river channel. Concentrate on the points and bends or where creeks and ditches dump into the river. Deep diving crank baits, Carolina or Texas rigged soft plastics and jigs working best.
White Bass: The Whites have really been on the move the last couple weeks. They’ve pulled off the river channel sand bars and are showing up in the boat lanes, flats and along the timber- lines. Look for schooling activity and keep a trap, shallow diving crank bait and top water plug handy when schooling. Also throw a slab spoon or tail spinner when they go down.
Crappie: The Crappie have been hit and miss lately. Good catches one day and zilch the next. Better catches coming out of 25 to 30 ft of water over planted brush piles with the fish being suspended around 15 ft..
