Toledo Bend Fishing Report
The lake is 170.45 ft.. High pool is 172msl. Both generators are running full time. Water clarity on the north end of the lake is muddy and stained as you go south with a lot of fresh muddy water still pouring into the lake.
Tis the season and the fish are starting to bust wide open. The Whites are biting in the river proper, the Blacks are moving shallow for their spawn and the Crappie are moving into the coves and creeks. The falling water and muddy conditions have kept us on the move staying up with the fish but the recent warm temperatures have kept the fish active.
We’ve been hammering the White Bass in the river on Chartreuse Road Runners, and ¼ oz red/orange & chrome rattle traps. Limits were being had in a couple hours. We worked the back of the sloughs and as the water continued to fall we followed the fish to the river proper. The falling water and cold front we had last weekend slowed the bite for the first part of this week as they got scattered moving out of the sloughs into the river. If we don’t get any gully washers, the bite should get better everyday and live crawfish and slab spoons will be productive working the river sandbars.
The Black Bass are moving shallow. All sorts of baits are productive. Spinner baits, traps, shallow diving crank baits, stick baits, jerk baits and finesse plastics (wacky worms, flukes and senkos). If you’re only catching small buck bass back out to deeper water and work the drops or ditches for staging females with soft plastics, traps and jigs. If you catch one you should catch some more in the same area.
