Toledo Bend Fishing Report
The lake is 168.57 ft msl almost two foot lower than two weeks ago. High pool is 170msl. Both generators are closed. Water clarity on the north end of the lake is stained and clearing as you go south. Water temp is running in the low to mid 50s and rising.
The fishing has really improved across the board with the warm weather and SRA ceasing generation. With the lake being stable the fishing should even get better if we don’t get a flood. Some rain is in the forecast with a cold front coming but it’s supposed to warm back up in a couple days.
Warm water temperatures have moved a lot of bass into the coves. Spinner baits, traps, top water plugs and soft plastics either Texas or CR rigged have been working well in 8 to 12 ft of water along creek channels. Half ounce spoons also working in deep water.
The Crappie have also picked back up but we’re not catching them in real deep water like we usually do this time of year. We’re working 18 to 20 ft of water along creek channel bends and ledges with a lot of fish suspended around 13 ft. with some good slabs over 2 pounds. The Crappie are moving along the creek channels and are not holding tight to cover. We’ll catch four or five and then it will slow up and a little while latter we’ll catch some more. If you’ll stay in one place and wait them out, you can end up with a good mess of fish at the end of the day. The best bite has been early morning and late evening. Shiners seem to be working better than jigs. In jigs, Black/chartreuse has been our best color.
