Toledo Bend - TX,Huxley
Toledo Bend weekly report
The lake is 168 ft, msl and slowly falling, high pool is 172ft msl. Water temp is running in the upper 70s. Both generators are shut down. The very north end of the lake is stained and clearing as you go south.
The bass fishing has really picked up the last couple weeks with the falling water temperatures. Texas or Carolina rigged soft plastics and deep diving crank baits fished over ledges falling into deep water have accounted for most of the big stringers in the recent tournaments. Watermelon, watermelon red, red bug and June bug have all been productive colors. For numbers, not much size, we’re catching a lot of fish on mid- diving crank baits (Fat Free Shad, L’ttle N’s etc) off main lake points at the mouth of major feeder creeks. Schooling activity has also been increasing. Watch for birds feeding on schools of shad to locate the bass. Keep a trap, top water plug, and shallow diving crank bait handy when the bass are schooling.
The Crappie are also starting to move towards the ledges and drops along the old river channel over brush tops and will only get better as the water temp continues to fall. Best fishing has been at night or early morning.
