Welcome to Toledo Bend Guide Service & Lake Cottage
11/03/2003
Toledo Bend - TX,Northend
Nov on the Bend
Lake Level is 165.95 ft msl, six foot below high pool. Both generators are closed and the lake is holding steady. Water is clear to stained. Temps running in the low 70s. Caution should be taken running certain areas due to the low level conditions. Some ridges are just under the water in some boat lanes.
November can be some of the hottest bass action of the year. As the water temperature starts to drop the bass will start feeding heavily in anticipation of the forth-coming winter months. The shad will start moving into the coves and the bass will follow. Watch for top water activity and keep a top water plug, spinner bait, buzz bait, and shallow running crank bait handy. For bigger fish throw a worm, jig, spoon or tail spinner (Rinky Dink) under the schooling bass. Areas to concentrate are main lake points, river channel shelf and ledges, the mouth and back pockets of the creeks and coves, and creek shelf and ledges. Early work shallow flats close to deep water drop-offs. Also watch for gulls feeding on bait fish to locate active bass.
November is a great month to load up on the crappie and White Bass. The Crappie will start grouping up on the ledges of the river channel around brush tops and will only get better as the water continues to cool Crappie are presently holding between 16 and 24 ft. Shiners working best. Looks like we are going to have a great fall season as long as we don't get a huge influx of fresh water. Shiners and small jigs vertically fished over the tops will produce some good fish. The Whites will be staging off the river channel sand bars making their annual migration towards the river proper. Slab spoons, Rinky Dink tail spinners, chrome traps and shallow diving crank baits can all be productive.
