Welcome to Ricky's Guide Service

One of the great things about keeping a log of your fishing trips is being able to go back to it and see what the fish were doing in any given month and start your next trip using the same pattern. This has paid off for me MANY times in the past and I am certain it will pay off again. A lot of people come to East Texas each year from out of town, out of state and even from other countries to take part in some of, if not the best, bass fishing in the world. Now, nothing beats an up to date fishing report, which we also have, but when that is not available logs from previous trips are hard to beat! I have compiled a condensed version of my logs that detail the patterns that I have seen time and again on these lakes. Click on the month that you are interested in to see what the fish should be doing when you get here.

Fork - TX,
Lake Fork in August will be great for big bass
I would like to invite you to come down to Lake Fork in August if you like big bass. That’s right you can catch some really nice bass on Lake Fork even in August if you can handle the heat. I know the heat is a big factor but if you can stand it and can throw big crank baits in the worst of the heat then you can land some very nice trophy bass.
Lake Fork opened up to the public September first in 1980 and boat ramps were hard to get to do to the demand and fishing was great for the ones who came. I began fishing Lake Fork in November of ‘80 but wouldn’t guide on it until I felt it was right for me. I wanted to know as much about the lake as I could so that when I took my clients out they would have a better success than the ones fishing with other guides.
I have now been a guide on Lake Fork for 14 plus years by waiting and learning the lake the way I have, I have had many fish grace my boat 10lbs. and larger with my best weighing in at 14lbs 8oz’swith clients catching bass to 12 lbs 3oz’s. By learning the lake in the manner that I did I feel it has helped me to learn more about the bass and where they can be found during just about any month of the year. I am happy to say that I have never had to use live bait to catch fish for this is normally a type of fishing used when someone has never been on the lake or just can’t find fish on their own. I try to spend as much time on the water as I do off the water. This means I am working at finding new fish that can be caught even in the hottest times of the summer and on the hottest days when everyone else is in the air-condition or under a fan some place. I have found that in the hottest time of the day big bass will feed up just as deer will move during this time due to no one being in the woods or on the water beating it with lures. This is the time to find big bass along the creeks or on tree lines feeding on big shad. I go after these big bass with large lures in a shad pattern and they work.
One of my best days ever was 6 fish weighing in at 46 lbs with the temps hitting 99 degrees?
