AIM Announced that Winneconne, Wisconsin Will Host the First Tournament of 2011.

The famous Wolf River walleye run will be the target for the first tournament of the 2011 AIM Pro Walleye Series.

by: Kathy Matheson,

(Dec. 04, 2010 - Plymouth, WI) Spring in Wisconsin means walleye fishing. And before the statewide general fishing season opens, the center of walleye fishing excitement is the Wolf River and the connecting chain of lakes. Literally straddling the Wolf River is the small city of Winneconne, Wisconsin. Known as a city of 2,401 of the friendliest people in Wisconsin - and for having no stoplights - Winneconne will be the host of the first event on the 2011 AIM Pro Walleye Series schedule.

Millions of walleyes inhabit the chain of lakes that includes Lake Winnebago, Butte des Mort, Lake Poygan, and Lake Winneconne. The majority of these walleyes enter the Wolf River for their annual trek upstream to spawn in the expansive marshes found in the headwaters. Almost all of these feisty walleyes pass below the Main Street Bridge in Winneconne - where hundreds of walleye fishermen wait for their first chance of the year at the tasty procession.

For 2011, the Winneconne Chamber of Commerce, along with Wolf River Resorts and Critter's Sports, will be welcoming the Pro Anglers and Co-anglers of the AIM Pro Walleye Series. The tournament will be held April 20, 21, and 22. Anglers will be able to fish all the connecting lakes, as well as more than 30 miles of the upper Wolf River in search of their daily limits of seven walleyes.

Like all AIM Pro Walleye Series tournaments, this event will feature the exclusive AIM Catch-Record-Release format that uses digital photo technology to record each fish as it is caught. The fish are then immediately released - where they were caught - and NOT transported to the landing. This means the Pro Anglers can continually upgrade their catch all day, every day and not have to contend with Wisconsin's well respected "no culling" regulations that would otherwise require them to stop fishing as soon as five fish were placed in the livewell. CRR also helps protect and preserve the fishery each state has worked so hard to develop.

AIM Pro Angler Chase Parsons, who "cut his tournament teeth" on the Winnebago chain said, "Winneconne and the Lake Winnebago system bring an exciting new location to the AIM circuit! In late April, depending on weather conditions, walleyes can be found anywhere from well up the Wolf River all the way through Lake Winnebago. Many techniques will come into play and the winner will have to stay on top of the larger walleyes all three days during their spring migratory patterns - not an easy task! Winneconne is one of the best locations for a walleye tournament, period!"

The 2010 AIM JJ Keller Angler of the Year, Robert Blosser commented, "The Winneconne location is bitter sweet for me. It's sweet because the location is perfect for this time of year. Winneconne is a great community, and is also a tremendous fishery. It's bitter because this place has kicked my butt three times before, but hey maybe the fourth time is a charm!"

Also unique to this location is that the daily multi-media weigh-in will be held inside of Critter's Sports. Critter's, and the adjacent Woodeyes Bar and Grill, houses the largest indoor 3-D archery range in Wisconsin. This 17,000 square foot facility will be converted to a stage and viewing area for the weigh-in. Large video monitors will show the largest walleyes of each Pro Angler as well as video coverage of the action before, during, and after each day's tournament hours.
