(Nov. 23, 2010 - Dania Beach, FL) Young anglers from the Santa Barbara, Calif., area along with a large group of Cub Scouts, parents and volunteers kicked off the first UPSAC/IGFA Goleta Pier Youth Angler Tournament in mid October, held at Goleta Beach County Park and Pier on the Pacific Ocean.

IGFA Representative Gary Graham said the event included sponsors and volunteers from United Pier and Shore Anglers of California, the Goleta Pier Angler Center, Santa Barbara County, County Parks, NOAA and its Ethical Angler Program, West Marine and the Oceanside Bait & Tackle Shop all helping out with bait, fishing gear, lunches and array of prizes.

After Marty Golden gave a short presentation on Ethical Angling the youngsters fished for three hours.

The age division winners based upon the fish caught included:

  • Conner Acuna, six year old division winner
  • Ethan Bresk, seven year old division winner
  • Nikolas Valenti, eight year olds
  • Andrew Bresk and Nicholas Colaneri, a tie among the nine year olds
  • Ian Taver, 10 year olds
  • Josh Acuna, 13 year olds
  • Duncan Stewart, 14 year olds

Each winning youngster won a rod and reel, a copy of Pier Fishing in California, and an impressive certificate from IGFA.
