Fork Anglers Report Second Largest Trophy Survey Totals 822 over 7 lbs. for April
(Monday, May 17,1999 - Lake Fork, TX)
Lake Fork, Texas: Merchants participating in the TROPHY BASS SURVEY reported that anglers recorded 822 Largemouth Bass over 7 pounds during the month of April. These figures are the second highest ever recorded, falling short of the 943 reported in March of this year. Highlighting the impressive April results were 98 Bass over 10 pounds reported to Lake Fork Merchants, which included 6 that were in excess of 13 pounds. Four of these "Teenagers" were donated to the TFFC in Athens through the Bud Sharelunker program. The anglers who caught the other 2 unselfishly released both fish fish back into Lake Fork to continue their spawning process. Results from February through April indicate that 1999 has been one of the most successful in recent years based on the number of Trophy bass caught by Lake Fork Anglers. To date, the survey has been a valuable source of information to the Lake Fork Area Merchants and Texas Parks and Wildlife. The data provided by these voluntary surveys has proven invaluable in assisting TPW biologists in their continued management of Lake Fork and other Texas reservoirs. The Lake Fork Area Merchants Council would like to sincerely thank all anglers and participating merchants for their support in making the Trophy Bass Survey a tremendous success since it's inception in August of 1998, and we hope that support will continue in the months to come.
*Fish reported are estimated to represent 30% to 40% of Trophy Bass actually caught.
**Angler reports indicate approximately 97% of all fish caught are released.
