Four "Teenagers" highlight January Survey Results
January results - Lake Fork Trophy Bass Survey
(Saturday, February 13,1999 - ) Lake Fork area merchants participating in the monthly Trophy Bass Survey reported 140 bass over 7 pounds (including 21 over 10) caught during the month. The numbers indicated that January through April still remains the prime time for "Trophy Largemouth", as four fish over 13 pounds were reported.
Of the four, two were successfully donated to the TP&W "Budweiser Sharelunker Program", by Cumby, Texas angler Randy Speight, and California angler Toby Edwards the last week of the month. The remaining two lunkers, a 13.5 pounder caught January 2, and a 15.1 pounder caught January 10, were reported on the survey, and both anglers reported the fish as being weighed on certified scales and then released back into the Lake.
With the possibility of more 13 pound plus fish being caught during the next few months, it is important to remind all anglers visiting Lake Fork to use extreme caution in handling the large fish, and seriously consider donating any fish over 13 pounds to the TP&W "Sharelunker" program.
All Marinas and most convenience stores on the Lake can assist you in caring for the fish and contacting TP&W to pick up and transport the fish to Athens.
*(Fish actually reported at weigh-in sites are estimated to represent approximately 30%-50% of actual bass over 7 lbs. caught by Lake Fork anglers)
**Survey participants have indicated that approximately 97% of the fish recorded, were released back into Lake Fork.
The trophy Bass Survey is co-sponsored by TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE and the LAKE FORK AREA MERCHANTS COUNCIL.
