Title achieved by hosting most youth fishing derbies, all of which can be found with online Derby Locator.

(Apr. 05, 2004 - KETCHUM, OK.) New York will host 87 Wal-Mart Kids All-American Fishing Derby events in 2004, more than any other of the 50 U.S. states, narrowly edging out Georgia by five events. This factoid was made public by the people at Hooked on Fishing International of Ketchum, Okla. as they opened up the 2004 online Derby Locator on the official website, www.kids-fishing.com. Following New York and Georgia as the states hosting the most sanctioned youth fishing derbies are Texas with 79 events, Illinois with 77, New Jersey with 76 events, and California with 75. To search the national database of the Wal-Mart Kids All-American Fishing Derby program, families can simply enter their zip code in the Derby Locator and find the closest derbies from among the more than 1,800 events. The results returned by the Locator indicate when and where the derbies are (often including actual directions) and who to contact to get more information. An estimated 300,000 young anglers from 5 to 16 are expected to participate in the events, which are organized and staffed locally by volunteer community service organizations. "For parents, the Derby Locator is the door to a fun and wholesome outdoor activity that involves the whole family, and for many young anglers it is a door that can open a lifetime of fishing fun," said HOFI's Daniel Johnson. Johnson said the kids-fishing.com website is popular with young anglers because of special sections like Sebastian's Corner, featuring Sebastian T. Bobber, the "Official Spokesbobber of Youth Fishing," who stars in his own comic strip on the site and offers special fishing tips for kids. Parents, too, are invited to visit the website for helpful information for taking kids fishing. Though registration for hosting events in 2004 is now closed, community organizations or agencies interested in putting on a derby in 2005 can learn about the program, including how to get the free Official Derby Kit and get on the email contact list for next year. The free kits, which come with event promotion materials, the Derby Organizer Handbook and giveaways for the kids, are made possible by the program's corporate partners including Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the title sponsor of the Kids All-American Fishing Derby, BAND-AID® BRAND ADHESIVE BANDAGES, Bar-S Foods Co., Berkley PowerBait, Berkley Trilene, DMF Bait Co., Dubble Bubble Bubble Gum, Eagle Claw, Edy's Grand Ice Cream, EverStart Batteries, FishingWorld.com, Fujifilm, Kool-Aid, Kraft Foods, Laker Fishing Tackle, Nestle Waters North America, PURELL® Instant Hand Sanitizer from GOJO Industries, Repel Insect Repellent from Spectrum Brands and Zebco. A FISHING TIP FOR KIDS FROM SEBASTIAN T. BOBBER Wear a cap or visor when you're fishing. It can be any color on the outside but the underside of the bill should be dark. Dark green is best. This makes it easier to see into the water. Hey, visit me at Sebastian‚s Corner at www.kids-fishing.com. I've got more fishing tips for you.
