(May. 10, 2009 - Montgomery, TX)... Anglers Quest 2009 Conroe Saturday Series #5 out of El Dorado Jack’s in Montgomery, TX began this event with 42 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $2830.00 purse.
The event began at safe light, which was 6:05 am following the playing of the National Anthem. Weigh in was conducted at 3:15 pm. This Conroe Saturday Series after all 9 events will provide the Team Anglers of the year with free entries to all 2010 Conroe Saturday Series events. The Top 25 teams in pounds will qualify for the 2-day Championship in October on Lake Conroe. A special Top 5 group of teams will qualify to go to the "Tournament of Champions" to be held on November 14-15 on Lake Bob Sandlin and will have a Great payout as normal. All Anglers Quest Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to fish for, for a very small entry fee of $155.00 per team.
Lake Conroe water was in good shape and about normal pool level with water temps ranning 68-72 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a very calm 75 degrees with a warming to 88 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was good for most today on Conroe as there were 7 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 61 bass at 190.56 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 3.12 lb.
The team of Charlie Walker from Houston, Tx & Jimmy Cole from Montgomery, Tx ran Jimmy’s Champion/Mercury bass rig to mid & south lake areas to catch & cull to their limit. They anchored their sack with the 1st Big Bass of the event, a fine 9.18 lber and reported culling down to 5 bass at 22.57 lbs to finish in 1st place and collect $1300.00 for their day on the water.
The newly formed team of Steve Lee from Conroe, Tx & Ricky Bishop from Willis, Tx ran Steve’s Champion/Yamaha bass rig to south main lake areas with brush and finished in 2nd with their best 5 bass that tipped the scales at 19.57 lbs. Steve & Ricky reported catching 8 keepers today all on Castaway rods tipped with tx rigged worms in 10-15 ft of water. Their day on the water paid back $700.00 for their efforts.
The father & son team of Julian Clepper II & Julian Clepper III from Magnolia, Tx ran their Champion/Mercury bass rig to north & south lake areas to find only 5 keepers to finish in 3rd place with a total that tipped the scales at 18.15 lbs. They used their American Rodsmiths rods tipped with cranks & C-rigged worms in 8-12 ft water around brush. They took home $420.00 for their day on the water.
Another father & son team of Chip & Brian Sewell from Coldspring, Tx ran their BassCat bass rig to undisclosed areas of the lake to catch their limit of 5 bass that tipped the scales at 15.34 lbs. Brian & Chip’s day on the water payed back $200.00.
The Tiremax team of Chris Wilkerson from The Woodlands, Tx & Tony Murray from Porter, Tx ran Chris’s Tiremax wrapped BassCat/Evinrude bass rig to numerous creeks and finished with 5 bass for a weight of 14.89 lbs. They took home the first place out of the money prize of 2 packs of ZZ Lures for 5th place.
Anglers Quest will be at Mill Creek Park on Sam Rayburn on Saturday, May 16th for the 5th of 9 Sam Rayburn Saturday Series events. On May 23rd Anglers Quest will be at Kickapoo Bait & Tackle on Lake Livingston for the 6th of 9 Livingston Saturday Series events. On May 31st we will be back on Sam Rayburn at Mill Creek Park for the 5th of 7 Super Team Series events. Don’t forget the launch ramp change on June 6th we will be back on Sam Rayburn for the 6th of 9 Saturday series events BUT, we will be at The Twin Dykes Park Ramp on 255 hwy. Remember to get your teams entry in early to get a low take off #, as they are issued when you enter.
