(Apr. 20, 2009 - Lake Bonham, TX)... Saturday, April 18, started out as a mild morning, foggy, misty and turned into a day dotted with occasional sprinkles followed by mostly cloudy day with temperatures rising into the low 70s. The Lake Bonham water level was a few feet low which took most of the lake’s reeds out of the picture for fishing. Taking their first win of the season, Don and Shirley Anthony brought in an impressive limit of five fish weighing 17.75 pounds anchored by Don’s 5.25 pound largemouth. Don and Shirley reported using crankbaits and lizards to take the win by more than two pounds. They were able to cull up to their final weight. For their efforts, they took home $328 and a plaque. Congratulations.
Taking second place, Barry Grigg fished alone Saturday since wife, Tami, was in the hospital. Barry brought in five fish weighing 15.02 pounds. Barry won Men’s Big Bass of the tournament with a solid 5.76 pound largemouth. For his efforts, Barry took home $81.50, a gift certificate from Brannan’s Bass Shop and plaques. Get well soon, Tami.
Third place was won by the team of Larry and Mary Lynn Wood, a nice stringer weighing 14. 66 pounds. Fourth place was won by Dannie and Amy Golden with 14.26 pounds. Kyle and Ann Johnson followed in fifth place with 11.76 pounds.
Amy Golden won Ladies’ Big Bass with a nice 3.63 pound largemouth. She took home $31.50, a gift certificate from Brannan’s Bass Shop and a plaque.
The teams of Weber, Wood and Grigg won gift certificates provided by Double ZZ Lures. The side pot was split by the teams of Callaway and Wood with each taking home $50.
Again this year Huffines Jeep Chrysler Dodge of Lewisville is sponsoring a loyalty prize to two of our teams that have paid entry fees to all six of the North Region’s 2009 regular season tournaments. From those teams which qualify, two will be drawn and those two will receive their entry paid to this year’s Championship on Lake Lewisville.
We urge you to patronize and promote all our generous sponsors for the 2009 season including B C Steel Buildings, Brannan’s Bass Shop in Powderly, Gary Yamamoto Baits, Bill Lewis’ Rat-L-Trap lures, and Double ZZ Lures.
Our next tournament will be on Lake Murray on Saturday, May 2 out of the Lake Murray Marina which is located on the west side of the lake (same place we used last year). Lake Murray has no minimum length for largemouth, smallmouth or spotted bass. For this tournament, any largemouth, smallmouth or spotted bass ten inches (10") or greater will be legal for weigh in.
We will start check in around 5:15 a.m. Safe light is projected as 6:11 a.m. and the tournament will begin at or close to that time - assuming safe weather conditions permit. The lake level is low so take extra care in navigating.
If you don’t already have them, please make a note of our cell phone numbers just in case you are delayed on the way to the tournament or in case of an emergency while on the lake.
See you at Murray.
