(Nov. 26, 2007 - Monticello, IN)... The last two years the Tippecanoe Valley Anglers have put on a benefit tournament to raise money for a worthy cause that has affected someone or family in the community. Last year TVA sponsored a benefit tournament that raised seven hundred dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Fund.

This year there was a tragedy that struck our community. One of our families’s lost their little girl to SIDS. Toby and Sandra Beach experienced the worst nightmare a parent can, the loss of their child. When things like this happen, their just don’t seem to be an explanation or a reason why, but one thing friends do is be there for each other and support each other. The Tippecanoe Valley Anglers decided to put on a benefit tournament and raise money to donate to the Riley’s Children Foundation in Megan Beach’s name. This was one way the club felt they could show their support for the family and maybe help make a difference in someone’s life in the future.

This tournament was made possible by all the donations that were received. The businesses and people that made this event so successful were Tall Timbers Marina, Miller-Roscka Funeral home, Indiana Beach Campground, Dodge Camp, Lafayette Copier, Great Homes, Westbrook Agency, Dellinger-Dellinger & Smith, End Zone Sports Bar, Main St. Station, Twin Lakes Fish & Game, David and Lynn Dunn, and Rod & Robbie Coffing. With the donations made by these people and the anglers that participated in the event, the Tippecanoe Valley Angler’s are making a donation to Riley’s Children foundation in the amount of $1,000.00.

Sixteen teams participated in the event. With the turning of the calendar to November, and the turning back of the clocks, having sixteen boats show up for the tournament was very rewarding. Jim McWhirter was the winner of the fifty-fifty drawing and donated the money back, Jeff Vandergraff was the winner of the fifty dollar gift certificate to the End Zone sports bar, Terry Westbrook was the recipient of the twenty dollar gas card donated by Main Street Station, Kyle Need won the St. Croix Triumph rod donated by Rod Coffing, and many angler’s along with Jenny Garvin of Dodge Camp received a cap donated by Twin Lakes Fish & Game and The Bass Federation.

The team of Jason Vance and Gary Strong won the event with a total weight of 7.73 pounds. This was an extremely tough day of fishing on a Lake (Freeman) that has not been to cooperative as of late. Jason and Gary were able to land the biggest fish of the contest as well with a beautiful smallmouth bass that weighed 4.13 pounds. The first place team also received beautifully engraved plaques prepared by Embroidery Design. In second place was the team of Jim Han and Wade Cohagen. Jim and Wade both of Monticello, IN was able to weigh in three fish that topped the scales at 5.44 pounds. In third place was the team of Brian and his girlfriend. They were able to bring in two fish that weighed 5.01 pounds. In fourth place was the team of Jim Wilson and Toby Beach. Jim and Toby were able to bring in three fish that weighed 4.41 pounds.

The Tippecanoe Valley Anglers are sponsored by Edgewater Marine, Fishingworld.com, Main Street Station, Lake-Land Real Estate, Twin Lake Fish & Game and JV Custom Baits.
