(Nov. 07, 2007 - Lake Shafer, IN)... The Tippecanoe Valley Anglers held its second open of the 2008 season. Eighteen fishermen had participated in the first event, which was excellent attendance for this time of year. There are many classics, special event tournaments, fall vacations and hunting season that all seem to fall in October, so choosing a weekend that everyone can attend is almost impossible. This time of year, Lake Shafer has been known to produce some unbelievable bags of fish, however like most tournament days, she was a little stingy, only giving up three limits.
Dave Coffing runs away with October Open!!! There is something about the second weekend of October and Lake Shafer that makes Dave Coffing smile. Dave, from Lafayette, IN., has won the last two tournaments on this lake one year apart. In 2006, Dave brought in 13.27 pounds and this year he was able to bring in five fish that weighed 11.90 pounds. Dave has definitely figured something out this time of year and is definitely at the top of the class when it comes to fishing Lake Shafer in the fall. Congratulations Dave on your first win of the 2008 season. In second place from Lafayette, IN. was Ron Pangborn. Ron was able to bring in a limit of fish that weighed 9.19 pounds. With weighing in a fish on the Freeman tournament, Ron has positioned himself in second place heading into the winter break. In third place from Mulberry, IN. was Ken Synesael. Ken, a very accomplished angler fishing in his second TVA event was the third angler to bring in a five fish limit that weighed 8.72 pounds. Rounding out the top five was Joe Castello, and Bill Kelly. With his fifth place finish, Bill Kelly takes the points lead heading into winter break.
It has been one exciting year with the Tippecanoe Valley Anglers. The year started off with the club capturing its second consecutive Top 8 team title. The club had two members advance to the state finals, and Jeff Vandergraff made the state team. Over thirty members fished with the club during the 2007 season, and twenty members qualified for the end of the year classic. Rod Coffing was named the angler of the year for the second consecutive year and Wade Cohagen won his first classic title. The second annual firecracker shoot-out was a huge success with over thirty teams participating in the event. The fall benefit tournament was also a huge success as the club was able to donate $1000.00 to Riley’s Hospital in Megan Beach’s name.
Special thanks go out to all of the sponsors, Edgewater Marine, Fishingworld.com, Main Street Station, Lake-Land Real Estate, Twin Lakes Fish & Game, Embroidery Design, and JV Custom Baits. The 2008 schedule will be posted on the web site at the beginning of the year. In order to make our club grow and become even better, everyone should try to recruit one person to join TVA next year and fish with the club. Thanks to all of you for all that you do. Have a relaxing winter break. |
