(Aug. 28, 2007 - Monticello, IN)... The Edgewater Marine TVA Bass series held its final event of the 2007 season. It has been a terrific year. Many new faces joined the club, as total membership climbed to 30 members. A new lake was added to the schedule; Geist Reservoir was fished by the club for the first time. The Firecracker Shoot-Out was the largest participated event of the year held on Lake Shafer. The Top 8 club captured its second consecutive team title.

All in all, it was a fantastic year. As the anglers began to arrive at the launch site, the most popular question was "Is it August or September?" The air temperature had dropped down into the 50’s for the first time in a month and the predicted high was only to be in the mid 70’s. Would this make the fishing even tougher or would it kick start them into a feeding frenzy that would make it a great day of fishing. Well, like most cold fronts and tournament bass fishing, it was not a feeding frenzy and found most anglers scuffling just to get a bite.

Cory Lorts became eligible for the classic by fishing in his fifth event. This brought the total to 20 anglers. Those eligible for the classic are: Rod Coffing, Jeff Vandergraff, Fuzzy Dunn, Dave Coffing, Frank Brown, Ron Pangborn, Bill Kelly, Bud Smart, Jim McWhirter, Wade Cohagen, Jim Han, Marty Yoder, Jim Lorts, Dean Mullins, Mike Quaglio, Ron Judd, Adam Wright, John Kolarik, Cory Lorts and Jim Wilson.

Fuzzy Dunn captures third win of the 2007 season! Fuzzy, from Crown Point, IN. was able to catch a five fish limit that weighed in at 9.88 pounds. A three pound plus smallmouth caught late in the day was the fish that put Fuzz over the top in his third win of the year and second on Lake Shafer. Fuzzy said he only had one fish at eleven o’clock, so he began to explore some water on the main lake and a few back water areas. Then things really began to happen when the fish began to react to his spinner bait. Fuzzy was able to catch four keepers rather quickly and win the final tournament of the 2007 season.

Jeff Vandergraff, Monon, IN. finishes in second place with a weight of 9.48. Jeff was able to bring in a five bass limit, one of only three anglers on this day to do that. Jeff also recently competed at the Indiana Bass Federation state finals and was fortunate enough to make the team. Congratulations Jeff on a great accomplishment.

Wade Cohagen, Monticello, IN finished in third place with a weight of 8.80, and was able to catch the big fish of the tournament, a beautiful 3.73 lb. largemouth. Jim McWhirter, Monticello, IN. was able to bring 5 fish to the scales that weighed in at 8.64 pounds. First out the money, and recipient of the Twin Lake Fish & Game tackle pack was Rod Coffing of Monticello, IN. Rod brought in four bass that weighed 7.36 pounds. More importantly, Rod was named Angler of the Year after accumulating the most points of one’s top seven finishes.

There were 3 limits weighed in, 32 fish brought to the scales, a total weight of 58.46 pounds for a 1.83 average. The next event will be the Tippecanoe Valley Anglers Classic held September 22nd and 23rd. The two fall events will be October 6th on Lake Freeman and October 13th on Lake Shafer. Let’s see if we can get the number of boats over 25! These will be open to any one that wants to fish, no membership required, and the points will count towards the 2008 season. Entry fees are $50.00, $5.00 big bass and ramp fee.

The Tippecanoe Valley Anglers are sponsored by Edgewater Marine, Fishingworld.com, Main Street Station, Twin Lakes Fish & Game, Lake-Land Real Estate, Embroidery Design, JV Custom Baits, and Sublette’s Ribs.
