nov-23-08- fish report
Reel um N Guide Service Owner Lynn Atkinson
Water Temp. 64 Water Clarity 2-3 feet 11/23/08 Sam Rayburn is at 156.97 ft and has fallen just a little. The water temperature has been around 58 degrees in the morning and warming up to around 63 by the afternoon. The water has been clear for the most part.
Sam Rayburn is LOW !!!!!!! Over 7.43 ft LOW. I can’t put into words how dangerous it is to run around the lake in areas that you have run before. I have seen a lot of boats run aground and tear things up. If you have never been here before you might want to hire a guide. Let him show you how to get around and a few good places to fish. It could save you some time and money.
Now, the fishing report: This week has had its up and downs but we still caught some fish. We had a front coming in on Thursday with winds that were kicking up 15 -20 mph. by late afternoon. The front pushed on thru later Friday night. We started out with just light winds around 10 mph. We caught a few fish at each stop; no big fish; but some nice ones. Then the wind lay down and the shallow bite died. We went deep and started catching fish again at 25 to 30 ft on drop shot and Jigs. There were fish busting the water chasing a shad here and there but nothing big. With a few more stops to make before calling it a day we caught a few more fish off deep points and drops. Friday morning was on the cool side as the temperatures had dropped into the high 30s, only reaching the 50s by the end of the day. We bundled up and tore out to our first spot and found no one anywhere. I got the first bump but he didn’t hookup. That’s my luck. Dick caught the first fish yesterday and would do it again. He had two in the boat, then three and that’s when I decided to change baits. As I changed baits I let him have the front of the boat. We eased down the grass line a ways before I got thru retying then I went to the back of the boat. The good thing; is I have a Minn Kota Terrova with the CoPilot so; I can run the boat from anywhere. We went a little farther up the bank and caught nothing so we turned around and went back to where Dick had caught his fish and worked the area again. It was a small spot; close to deep water; that had a little grass and bait around it. As we made a pass by it the second time I got a couple of small bumps, then the fight was on I told him it was a good one. When she came up and cleared the water it was beautiful with the sun just coming up behind her. We got her to the boat got a few pictures and a quick weight. 7.10 lbs. Then back into the water she went to fight another day. We caught around 15 fish in all and had a great day. The bite was shallow for the most part around grass. Look for more at the website fishing reports. Remember the Budweiser Sharelunker Program entries started on October 1 and run thru April 30th. If you haven’t heard, it encourages anglers who caught a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. There are some great benefits doing this, and one of them is getting a full color, life size, fiberglass replica of the bass. (October 1-April 30 only) If your fish meets the requirements listed above, call their toll-free, 24-hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 or (903) 681-0550.Check out the Program rules and benefits at http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/budsharelunker/rules/
As the water continues to cool down even more you should see a lot of fish moving in to fatten up for winter. So don’t just sit at home and let the beautiful days pass you by, get your trips booked now.
The new data base is up and running with only a few bugs to work out with it, so enjoy. If you find a problem please let us know so we can work on getting it fix. There are 3 years of reports that will be available with pictures of the week. This is a lot of info for the hard core angler to use to help get an idea of what the fish may be doing at any given time. There will be little tips and tidbits on fishing Sam Rayburn there also. The City of Warsaw is out of the water on the south side. I have had a lot of folks asking where that is. This may help you in finding it. If you’re running up the lake and you go under the 147 bridge to the long cut up the Angelina River it is just before you get to the timber line. The old Rail Road ran beside the town and unloaded rail cars there.
The Crappie have been moving around a lot with some up the river and some over the brush piles. We did get out and catch a few off the New Pontoon boat that we have at Jackson Hill Marina. We are booking trips for the springs so don’t wait to long. Round up your friends and get your trip booked. We can handle up to 10 anglers on the pontoon. We can also do sunset cruise for the one that just want to enjoy a slow ride on the water. If you haven’t heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call. Come on down and learn some nifty little tricks that will put some fish in the boat. God Bless Lynn Atkinson srayburn@rayburncountry.com www.rayburncountry.com Home 936-897-3400 Cell 979-220-0251 |
