nov-16-08- fish report
Reel um N Guide Service Owner Lynn Atkinson
Water Temp. 64 Water Clarity 2-3 feet 11/16/08 Sam Rayburn is at 157.22 ft and has risen some from the rain we had. The water temperature has been around 64 degrees. The water has been murky in places from the north wind that blew in on Saturday. Sam Rayburn is LOW !!!!!!! Over 7.25 ft LOW. I can’t put into words how dangerous it is to run around the lake in areas that you have run before. I have seen a lot of boats run aground and tear things up. If you have never been here before you might want to hire a guide. Let him show you how to get around and a few good places to fish. It could save you some time and money.
Now, the fishing report. This week has been different as the fish have been chasing a little more with a lot of small fish being caught. The bigger fish have been moving some and that’s a good sign. We have seen a lot more bait in the grass. Working around it has been one of the keys this week. We worked a couple places on a trip this week and had several fish just roll at the bait. We stayed with it and finely one got a little to close to the bait and got the point. With a few quick pictures and “Thank You Old Girl”, back in the water she went. We changed places and in a few minutes, Wham! Working the grass one just came up and killed the bait and the fight was on. Around a stump she went pulling drag, and as fast as she was on she was gone. Well that’s fishing, win some lose a lot!! This is the time of year you could have a trophy bass on the next cast. Remember these trophy fish are the backbone of a trophy lake. Taking one of those fish home to have her mounted is not the way to go. I know it’s only one fish. If everyone looked at it that way there would be no fish to catch. You can have a replica made of her that looks just like her and will last a lot longer. Remember the Budweiser Sharelunker Program entries started on October 1 and run thru April 30th. If you haven’t heard, it encourages anglers who caught a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. There are some great benefits doing this, and one of them is getting a full color, life size, fiberglass replica of the bass. (October 1-April 30 only) If your fish meets the requirements listed above, call their toll-free, 24-hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 or (903) 681-0550.Check out the Program rules and benefits at http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/budsharelunker/rules/ As the water continues to cool down even more you should see a lot of fish moving in to fatten up for winter. So don’t just sit at home and let the beautiful days pass you by, get your trips booked now.
The new data base is up and running with only a few bugs to work out with it, so enjoy. If you find a problem please let us know so we can work on getting it fix. There are 3 years of reports that will be available with pictures of the week. This is a lot of info for the hard core angler to use to help get an idea of what the fish may be doing at any given time. There will be little tips and tidbits on fishing Sam Rayburn there also.
The City of Warsaw is out of the water on the south side. I have had a lot of folks asking where that is. This may help you in finding it. If you’re running up the lake and you go under the 147 bridge to the long cut up the Angelina River it is just before you get to the timber line. The old Rail Road ran beside the town and unloaded rail cars there.
The Crappie have been moving around a lot with some up the river and some over the brush piles. We did get out and catch a few off the New Pontoon boat that we have at Jackson Hill Marina. We are booking trips for the springs so don’t wait to long. Round up your friends and get your trip booked. We can handle up to 10 anglers on the pontoon. We can also do sunset cruise for the one that just want to enjoy a slow ride on the water. If you haven’t heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call. Come on down and learn some nifty little tricks that will put some fish in the boat. . God Bless Lynn Atkinson srayburn@rayburncountry.com www.rayburncountry.com Home 936-897-3400 Cell 979-220-0251
