Oct-20-2008 Fish Report
Reel um N Guide Service Owner Lynn Atkinson 10/19/08 Sam Rayburn is at 157.10 ft and has started to hold its own. The water temperature has been around 72 degrees. The water has been murky in places from the north wind that blew in on Thursday. Sam Rayburn is low! Over 7 ft; so running around can be a little tricky. Getting a couple of good maps, sitting down and taking a look may keep you out of trouble. Slowing down, keeping a close watch for sand bars or a change in water color that indicates shallow water are also ways to keep from beaching your boat. You can laugh it up but I have seen several that were boogered up and had to be towed in. You could hire a guide and let him show you how to get around the bad areas and catch a few fish at the same time.
The front really slowed things down making the morning bite the best around the grass edges and lily pads. There been a little topwater bite but it's been spotty and hard to get them to chase anything. Slowing down with plastic has had the best results. Senko's and wacky worms around the grass and pads and just hanging in there has put a few fish in the boat. Offshore structure has given up the best bite. We picked up a 5 lb and broke one off, only to go back on Friday and catch a 10.20 lb from the same place. Hopefully she will be there for the guys come tournament day. Carolina and Texas rig has been the best setup for us working ledges and drop off. We had a few bites on Crankbaits and lipless baits but it's still slow. When the water stops dropping like a rock the fish should start to set up a pattern and start fattening up for winter.
The Crappie have been moving around a lot with some up the river and some over the brush piles. We did get out there and fill a cooler.
The cool morning air has been Awesome. Recent sunrise light shows have been pretty darn spectacular and the sunsets ain't to shabby either.
The 22 ft pontoon is ready to go for the larger Crappie trips and will be added to the website in the next week. So get you trips booked now.
The Cat fish have pickup some this week around the structure in about 12 to 18 ft.
If you haven't heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call. Come on down and let me teach you how the pros work the lake. God Bless
