0ct-13-08 fish report
Reel um N Guide Service Owner Lynn Atkinson 10/12/08 Sam Rayburn is at 157.17 ft and has been falling all week, the water temperature has been around 74 degrees. The water has been murky for most of the week and has started to clear up some. Sam Rayburn is low! 7.23 ft low at this time by the data we've been getting. Is this causing the murky water? No, it looks like Sam Rayburn is going thru the fall turn over. This makes the water that was clear cloud up and become that murky color. This is something that happens to all lakes and is normal. Its does slow the bite down. When the water clears up and returns to normal so will the bite. Hang in there and don't give up on fall fishing. Now for the low water; it puts a lot of humps and ridges out of water. Remember there are new hazards just under the surface. I can't tell you how many people have found these places the hard way. Get a map out and take a good look at it. Slow down! Some of these places come up quick. With luck sometimes you can see an off color just before you get to them. The City of Warsaw is out of the water on the south side. I have had a lot of folks asking where that is. This may help you in finding it. If you're running up the lake and you go under the 147 bridge to the long cut up the Angelina River it is just before you get to the timber line. The old Rail Road ran beside the town and unloaded rail cars there. The morning bite has been the best but has ended fairly early around the pads and grass edges. Try Stanley Ribbits, Pop-Rs along with a few soft plastics like wacky worm and senko's. After the morning bite slows down, backing off to the edges and slowing down is the best way to pick a few up. Carolina and Texas rig off the points and drops have been picking up a few good fish. The bite has been very light so having a good rod is very important. American Rodsmiths Team Series Rods are just right for the job. I know it sounds tough but there have been several fish over 9 lbs. caught this week. The fishing should start to improve as the water clears up and start's to stabilize. Most of these fish are holding in tight groups and are hard to find, but if you run across them you can wipe up. As for the colors of plastic I've been using, a darker color early then going to a lighter color as the sun comes up. Red Bug, Plum, Plum-Apple, Black-Berry, Black- Blue and Water Melon Red are my colors right now. The Crappie have been moving around a lot with some up the river and some over the brush piles. We did get out there and fill a cooler up. The weather has been so nice it's hard to stay indoors. The cool morning air has been Awesome. Recent sunrise light shows have been pretty darn spectacular and the sunsets ain't to shabby either. The 22 ft pontoon has arrived and we are going to give it a shakedown this week. We will also be doing tours or renting the pontoon with a captain to do the driving. It will be based out of Jackson Hill Marina. The Cat fish have pickup some this week around the structure in about 12 to 18 ft. If you haven't heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call. Come on down and learn some nifty little tricks that will put you in the front of the pack. God Bless
