8-13-08 fish report
Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson 08/10/08 Sam Rayburn is at 160.44ft, the water temperature has been around 87 degrees. The water is clear to around 2 ft. and clearer in some spots. This week; with the storms that came out off the gulf we looked for some rain but it missed us and the lake is continuing to drop. We did get a north wind that cooled Friday off some and the cloud cover has been nice. We did have a few days that the cooler weather helped the bite some. It has been a tough bite all this week but on Friday things took a turn and we had a fairly good day. We started out throwing a few frogs up shallow and picking up a few fish and missing a few. My client said" I had one pick it up but she dropped it". No, wait, it's still there. As he went to set the hook the fish turned, right there beside the boat and we watched as she swam away. She was no small fish. We guessed she weighed in the 8 lb class. After a few more fish we headed in for a break. We've been doing a few split days to stay out of the heat. After a long break we started out for the afternoon bite. We headed to a few grassy points to give them a try first. After a few small fish there was a little tap- tap, the hook was set and the fight was on. The fish made one jump and buried itself in the grass. After digging her out and taking a few pictures off she went to fight another day. She was in the 7 lb range, not to long but she was a fat one. Good and healthy. Fishing the lily pads and grass has been the best this week. There has been a little topwater bite early and late and then it's just working the grass the rest of the day. The deep bite has been slow with a few off the points and humps with Carolina and Texas Rig. The Crappie have slowed down some this last week over the brush piles and around the bridge. We have picked up a few nice fish. Remember get the kids out fishing and have some fun. The Cat fish have been doing pretty good this week with a lot of keeper size fish being caught. If you haven't heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call. Learn some new skills and a few tricks to catch fish on any lake.
God Bless
