8-3-08 fish report Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson 08/03/08 Sam Rayburn is at 160.86 and continuing to drop this week. The water temperature has been around 89 degrees. The water is clear to around 2 ft. and clearer in some spots. The water is still dropping as always at this time of the year. You can look for more of the shallow flats to become a little harder to get around and we will see more stumps and ridges. This is a time to be on guard because where you ran in the past may be to shallow to run now. Just a few weeks back we had a boat come in with a 250 Hp motor knocked off. The motor was hanging by the cables and had to be loaded into the back of the truck. It just takes one stump to do a lot of damage to your boat, so be careful out there. Get a map and look at the timber that's in the lake and get to know where the forests are. Just because you see someone else running thru there doesn't make it safe. Another way is to hire a guide to show you around and get to know where you can run and some places to fish. Now for the fishing; it's been tough. These fish are really hiding good at this time of year. The Grass and Lily Pads are still your best places to find them. There are lots of pads and grass in the lake. These fish are buried and can be hard to get out. Working some Frogs and Pop-Rs around them early and late can be on one way to get a few bites. Working a senko and wacky work around the edges is another way of getting them to bite. The points and humps will start to give up a few fish with Deep Driving Crankbaits and Carolina Rig. Finding some good grass and working one of the Stanley Grass Jigs in the ½ to 1 oz to get thru can bring up a few fish. It's a lot of work but you can turn up some good fish. It just gets tough at this time of year. Get out on the water and fish some of the structure. You never know when the next cast might be the one that catches that big Bass. The Crappie have slowed down some this last week over the brush piles and around the bridge. We have been picking some up. Remember get the kids out fishing and have some fun. The Cat fish have been doing pretty good this week with a lot of keeper size fish being caught. If you haven't heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call.
