July 20-2008 fish report
Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson 07/20/08 Sam Rayburn is at 161.69 and continuing to drop this week. The water temperature has been around 89 degrees. The water is clear to around 2 ft. and clearer in some spots. The grass and lily pads are looking great with some of the grass out to 12 ft. It hasn't matted over yet but it sure gives the Bass a lot of cover to hide in. It also makes a lot of work for everyone to pickup a few fish. This grass makes it tough to get to them. Working a top water bait over the grass is one way to get one to come up and take a swipe. If it missed the bait, chunk it back in there or follow up with a soft plastic bait. When the bite slows down, move out to the edge and work a senko or other soft plastic over the edge to get a few bites. If you like using the grass jig, now's the time to get it out and work on the edges of the grass. The deep bite has been slow with only a few small fish coming out to play. The Crappie have slowed down some this last week over the brush piles and around the bridge. We have been picking some up. Remember get the kids out fishing and have some fun. The Cat fish have been doing pretty good this week with a lot of keeper size fish being caught. If you haven't heard about The Bass Class on the water check it out on the website and give me a call. Learn some new skills and a few tricks to catch fish on any lake.
