April- 28- fishing report
Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson 04/27/08 Sam Rayburn is at 163.75 ft and began to fall this week. The water temperature has been around 70. The water color is clear for the most part with a little more stain in the upper river and creeks.
This week we caught a few fish up shallow, early, on soft plastics. Then moved out to the points with Carolina Rigs to pickup a few more fish. It looks like the Topwater is just trying to get started in a few places as the water temperature comes up. Pop-Rs , Yellow Magic's and Stanley Ribbits High floater will start to get some action. There's a lot more grass coming up thru out the lake so we just have to keep a eye on it . The pepper grass in some of the pockets will start to hold fish as will the pads that are starting to show up. The offshore structure has been giving up a few fish along with some deeper edges. I've been Carolina Rigging some of the E2 Baits this week and have caught some nice fish on the 6 " CT Lizard and the Needle Worms. The tails like to float up just asking for it; the bass just can't stand it.
Well we did the test ride in the Bee Line and it rides great. We went Thursday afternoon when we had some rough water and nice rollers that Big Sam is famous for. We made a run out and around Calhoun Point to the edge of the Black Forest before we idled down to see if one of the rollers would come over the front. She rode with her head up with no water coming over. We kicked her into neutral and set there. Still nothing. She rides nice and smooth and dry and looks like she will get you where you want to go without beating you up. We parked her out there by the canyons and got up front and let the other guys walk around to see how stable she was. It pasted my test. Is it fast you? I've seen 75 Plus and that's not all she's got. The "Bee Line" under the new Phoenix Brand. Their number is 931-455-2014 or there will be a link on my site to them. They are still getting things setup. You can get the details from Coolwater Boats at 936-824-2262 .
"New Video on the website!!" This week we caught some big slabs on lipless crankbaits over the grass, in the flats, and a few in the brush piles. They seem to be moving in and should be ready in the next few weeks if the weather will stabilize. The "Contest for the Free Guide Trip On Big Sam" has been running this week . The winner is hanleyjj2000@. He has contacted me and we will set up his trip in the next few weeks.
If you haven't heard about The Bass Class on the Water check it out on the website and give me a call. Learn some neat stuff to help find fish on any lake. God Bless
