March 31, 2008 Fishing Report
03/29/08 Sam Rayburn is at 163.24 ft and has been holding its own. The water temperature has been around 69 and rising in the afternoon. The water color is clear for the most part with a little more stain in the upper river and creeks March has just been an off month. The weather warming up, then cooling back down has been killing the bite It seems the fish have been waiting for everything to get right to get on the beds. The last part of the week the fish have turned on and a lot of fish are moving up shallow. Friday we had the kids day on the lake and started by catching a few small fish that were schooling in one of the flats. The small fish on the top weren't any where near as good as we found by slowing way down and catching the ones in the grass under them. WOW. We caught several fat females that were just moving in, as the water warmed up to 70 degrees. The fish had moved up into the buck brush where we caught 6 around 5 lbs and broke one off. We got some of the kids fish on video but missed out on the other fish. We really couldn't help but get into the action. We had a cold rain the next morning cooling the water down again but still managed to catch a few nice fish on video. Sunday we did a little Crappie fishing before the rains hit and found some nice slabs had moved in and started to bite.. It looks like the warmer water is going to turn things around and get the spawn on the move here on "Big Sam". Most of the big fish were in one spot that you could cast to if you had the boat in the right place. I watched a lot of anglers come thru and pass right over them all day. Beating the bank all day can put some fish in the boat but learning what the fish want is the most important thing..
The Big Bass Splash is just around the corner on "Big Sam" so you better start making your plans if you 're going to get in there and fish it. April 18-19-20, 2008 are the big days. $560,000 worth of Cash and Prizes WOW !! If you haven't got you trips booked now is the time. " Big Sam" is a lot different this year then it was last year at this time. Good Luck
"New Video on the website!!" I have start to video record a few of the trips and will be adding a new clips each week to the Latest Catch page. It will take you to youtube for now. Please just click back to the website when you are done. Check out the Kids on Sam Rayburn Part One & Two
We have started to pickup a few Crappie on the flats but its been slow so far. The fish we have seen were over 2 lbs blacks. Small Crankbaits and Road Runners have been the ticket. Break out the ultra light gear and get ready to fill the coolers
If you need to get away for the day and do a little fishing or would like to check out The Bass Class on the Water and get some great tips that will help you on any lake give me a call. Thanks and God Bless
