March 24-2008 Fishing Report
Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson
03/23/08 Sam Rayburn is at 163.24 ft and still rising. The water temperature has been around 68 in some of the pockets. The water color is clear for the most part with a little more stain in the upper river and creeks
This week we have had some nice weather that has warmed thing up. We have seen some fish in the shallow water, but have not found any beds yet. These fish are real spooky and getting close to them can be hard. Keeping the old trolling motor on low and moving real slow is one thing that can help you out. If you come up on a fish and he runs off, remember the spot and come back to it later. If you find them locked on a bed then all you have to do is find the sweet spot with the right bait to get them to hit it. Sounds easy don't it. Well I've seen it take half an hour to catch one fish off the bed . You can put the bait right in middle of the bed and watch him pick it up by the tail and run off to the side and drop it. But the excitement of catching him is to much for us to pass up. We caught several fish in the brush this week on a New Stanley Bugeye Football Jig . I have found it to be excellent to work around the brush with because of the way it falls and settles in the upright position .Sure makes it look like a crawfish. When working the edges of the grass we've been working some of the 6" CT Lizards by E2 Bait Company on a light C/R or T/R and picking up some nice fish. There are also some fish out deep off some of the humps . We are starting see find more grass and it looks like it maybe a good year for some good grass fish.
The Big Bass Splash is just around the corner on "Big Sam" so you better start making your plans if you 're going to get in there and fish it. April 18-19-20, 2008are the big days. $560,000 worth of Cash and Prizes WOW !! If you haven't got you trips booked now is the time. Big Sam is a lot different this year then it was last year at this time. Good Luck
"New Video on the website!!" I have start to video record a few of the trips and will be adding a new clips each week to the Latest Catch page. It will take you to youtube for now. Please just click back to the website when you are done.
We have started to pickup a few Crappie on the flats but its been slow so far. The fish we have seen were over 2 lbs blacks. Small Crankbaits and Road Runners have been the ticket. Break out the ultra light gear and get ready to fill the coolers
If you need to get away for the day and do a little fishing or would like to check out The Bass Class on the Water give me a call. Thanks and God Bless
