march 10-2008 Fishing Report
Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson 03/09/08 Sam Rayburn is at 162.30 ft. The water temperature has been around 51 to 58 in some of the pockets. The water color is a little stained but clearing up as you go south.
We have had several fronts come in this week with the worst one on Friday bring in a little snow and sleet. It didn't stay long and the temperature was back in the high 60s by Saturday afternoon. The bite did slow down but should be back up this week with the warmer weather. I haven't seen any fish on beds yet but I know they are close by. The spawn seems to be just around the corner. Early in the week we started fishing in a creek leading back to a spawning pocket. We were catching some nice fish on Traps when we saw some movement around the brush. We picked up our flipping rod and made a few casts in the area and caught several male bass. No monsters but a lot of fun when you get in a little flipping time.
As the fronts moved thru the water temperatures dropped pushing these fish back a little. On Sunday afternoon we found a few pockets where the water had warmed up and caught one that went over 4 Lbs. It was in less then a foot of water. One of our best fish came off a ledge that drops off to 12 ft. We got him on a Carolina Rigged Bobtail Lizard by E2 Bait Company. These baits are unique in design and you need to check them out!
"New Video on the website!!" I have start to video record a few of the trips and will be adding a few clips each week to the Latest Catch page. It will take you to youtube for now. Please just click back to the website when you done.
The Crappie have been slow this week as they make their move downriver toward the grass flats. We should start to have some patterns in the next few weeks that will put a few of those big slabs in the boat. So sharpen your hooks and get your cooler ready.
If you need to get away for the day and do a little fishing or would like to check out The Bass Class on the Water give me a call. Thanks and God Bless
