3-03-08 Fishing Report
Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson
03/02/08 Sam Rayburn is at 161.83 ft. The water temperature has been around 58 to 65 in some of the pockets. The upper parts of the river have been getting muddy from all the water coming down. Some of the creeks are looking the same way.
This week has be tough with the wind blowing most of the time. We did get out and catch quite a few fish with the biggest going around 5 lbs but it was a lot of work. With the wind blowing 15 to 20 mph its hard to feel a 1 oz weight much less a fish that's is just bumping the bites. As they say let the wind be your fiend. We made the first wind blown speed pass down the bank throwing traps putting five keepers in the boat . The bite was very hard to feel and that's when it counts the most. When you fish over grass you've got to feel the differences between the grass and a fish hitting the bait. Staying in contract with the bait at all times is the most important thing in fishing. What you think is a twig of grass could be a fish just kissing the bait and learning the difference is very important. The Rat-L - Trap is a tool just like the Jig, Carolina or Texas Rig and learning how to work them is what its all about. Building confidences in the baits and picking the most likely places that fish should be at this time of year. If you just work down the banks maybe its time you learn something new. Try new things, don't get stuck in the some old habits.
Just a few of the baits we have been throwing are Rat-L-Traps, Crankbaits, Stanley Jigs, C/R , T/R and wacky worms. The colors have been Pumpkinseed, Watermelon Red, Green Pumpkin, and Jug Bug. Hard bait colors , Rayburn Red, Chrome, White, and Chartreuse
The crappie have been up the river and I mean up the river around the channels. A few have been caught here and there around some of the brush piles. With the little rain we have had I hope to see them start moving back down the lake anytime now.
I'll be taking a test drive in a new boat from Coolwater Boats sometime in March to see how it rides. My Nitro29 may be coming up for sale. If you're looking for a boat give me a call. Coolwater Boats takes good care of me.
I also want to say "Thanks" to a new sponsor E2 Bait Company. I've been using their baits this last few weeks and have caught quit a few fish on them. The Action you get from them is neat. I look forward to catching a lot of fish with them. I'll let you know how things go
If you need to get away for the day and do a little fishing or would like to check out The Bass Class On The Water give me a call. Thanks and God Bless
