2-11-08 fishing report
Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson
02/10/08 Sam Rayburn is at 159.49Ft. The water temperature has been around 52 in the morning, warming up to around 56 in some of the pockets by afternoon. Some of the pockets have been clear to around 3 ft.
This week we had several days that the wind blew 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, but we got out there and had a couple of awesome days of fishing. We started out on some wind blown points with some good deep water close by. We started fishing the edges and found that they where holding to the bottom around structure: so out came the dredging tools. Some off the bites felt like freight trains, but the big ones would just make a small bump and then get heavy. You really had to stay on your toes to feel them. I always say hook sets are free. We caught several fish that have spawned out this week, one was over 7 lbs. I had one that acted like it had a nest to protect. Picking the bait up and moving it and letting go. I'd put it back in there and she would move it off again. I couldn't see anything as the water was a little off color but she could. We've been picking up a fish over 5 lbs on every trip this week. We had 21.50 lbs on the 7th and 20 lbs on the 8th That's was some great fish. I hope some of you guys will come join us for a day out on the lake. See you soon.
Just a few of the baits we have been throwing are Rat-L-Traps, Crankbaits, Stanley Jigs, C/R and T/R. The colors have been Pumpkinseed, Watermelon Red, Green Pumpkin, and Jug Bug.
The crappie have been up the river and I mean up the river around the channels. With a few being caught here and there around some of the brush piles. With the little rain we have had I hope to see them start moving back down the lake anytime now.
