Fish Report 1-14=08 Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson 01/13/08 Sam Rayburn is at 158.95 The water temperature has been in the low to mid 50s and is starting to clear up with visibility to a depth of 3 feet in some of the pockets. This week has been great . Even with the cold front coming in we've been catching fish over 8 lbs. Thursday we headed out on the water with some great folks from Ks in hopes of making there 1st trip on Big Sam something to remember . As we pulled up on the first spot we pulled out the Rat-L-Traps to work the edge of the grass and after just a few minutes the first fish was on and it was a dandy. With quick net work he was in the boat. A nice 5.32, not bad for the first fish. Then just a few more cast and a nice 3 lb. was hauled on board. This young man was whipping up on us. His wife said that's about the way it goes but not to worry she was hangin' in there. After a short run to the next spot we started working the grass and it was pretty heavy cover. Both of them where working it over. I looked at the back of the boat and could see that his wife was working the trap out of the grass and was have a time at it. All of the sudden the grass came alive with a monster bass. After one of the best fights I've seen in a long time she came to the boat with a fish weighing in at 8.60lbs. We fished a lot more places and I finely caught a keeper to put in the live well. It ended up with the clients catching all the good fish and myself just getting the little ones out of the way. The rest of the week was awesome! We caught lots of 4 and 5 lb bass around the deeper edges and drops. You have to be willing to switch baits when the one you've been using stops working., Don't get stuck on just one bait Some of the baits I like to start with are baits that I can cover a lot of water with .I try the Stanley Spinner Baits , Lipless Crankbaits and Crank Baits. Always change the speed from fast to slow or maybe a stop and go , see what the fish want. If I find a good area and don't pickup a fish on them I may hit it with a Stanley Jig , Senkos , Carolina or Texas Rig. Don't give up. There are a lot of good fish moving in to spawn. Sitting on the couch all day wont catch em. So give us a call and book your next trip. Remember what my wife says, "Get off your duff and on your feet. A day on the lake just can't be beat." Crappie having been moving around some. We've been catching a few off the brush piles and some around the bridges. There are a bunch stacked up in the river channel.
