Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson
12/30/07 Sam Rayburn is 159.14. That's 5.49 feet below pool. The water temperature has been in the low to mid 50s and is starting to clear up with visibility to a depth of 3 feet in some of the pockets.
This has been a cool week and the water temperature has dropped putting the fish tight to cover. We've been catching them on a number of baits. Results depend on how slow you work them. The shallow fish are buried in the grass and can be hard to get to bite. Finding grass with bait around has been one of the keys to catching a few of them. The shad are small this time of year so stay on the small side. There are a few fish holding off the deep edges around structure but again, slow is the key. The Rat-L-Trap bite has been on and off this week. Keep one tied on and try it from time to time around the grass points and drains. I'll try to add more details on the baits on my site in the next few days so keep a close watch.
I am going to give a discount on 20 trips that are booked to take in Dec and Jan so don't wait. The trips are $250 for a full day and is my way of saying "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year". You have to go to my website rayburncountry.com. and look for the discount page for the promotion code. There will be one Trip given away Free. Check out the details on the discount page. All trips will be booked based on availability Crappie having been moving around some. We've been catching a few off the brush piles and some around the bridges.. There are a bunch stacked up in the river channel. Getting the weather to work with you so you can set out there and fish is the hardest thing.
