Reel um N Guide Service By Lynn Atkinson
11/07/07 Sam Rayburn is 159.27 and falling slowly. The water temperature has been in the high 60s. The water has been clear to around 2ft. for the most part. This week there has been high pressure over use making for some tough fishing for some folks. I have been throwing a lot of baits this week. I caught fish on Stanley Ribbit Frogs in the middle of the day fishing over the edge of the grass and around lily pads. When the front blew thru I caught them on Traps , Lucky Craft, Senkos and Spinner baits. There are a lot of fish suspended 16 to 25 ft around structure. These are the hardest fish to get to bite. It looks like the barometric pressure is starting to fall so the fishing should improve this next week. You can pickup a few fish here and there working a bank; finding a spot that has some good fish is what every angler is looking for. Being there at feeding time is a stroke of luck we all hope for.
The weather affects the bass a lot , so as a front moves thru you may find your pattern falling apart. You may have to go to a finesse bait to get a bite. Sometimes when you think you are fishing slow you're not fishing slow enough. If you aren't getting any bites change something. There are times that a fish will pickup your bait so softly that you will not even feel it but you can see the line move. Remember, watching your line is very important .
Just a reminder the lake is over 5 ft low and there is a lot of timber showing now. Don't forget that the city of War Saw is just east of the long cut. Be careful in that area.
The Crappie seem to be moving in some, so look for more hits in the next few weeks. The bite will continue to change as we get more into fall. Look for them to move to the bridges and river channels in the next few months.
